Insider Information when traveling to South America.

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2236033/the_best_time_to_visit_south_america.html?cat=16

Click on the above link and get the "in-side" information on a much needed vacation spot.

Many influences mandate that, from the tender age of voting, adults forgo vacation and times spent enjoying life; rather we spend it consumed with acquiring possessions and saving the monies earned for rainy days and future concepts.

Dismiss those thoughts for a moment and travel with me to South America...a land that has much for every traveler. Elect to be a child at heart and (being conscious when to look for vacation packages), take a trip. Enjoy the world in which you live, for tomorrow, it may be too late.

Enjoy.

"Free Your Mind"

Popular lyrics borrowed from En Vogue "http://www.elyrics.net/read/e/en-vogue-lyrics/free-your-mind-lyrics.html", but very applicable.

When we positive decisions we will similarly receive positive outcomes. In the middle of a poor decision the outcome will be determined by our initial thought.

The mind is our powerhouse and will either enable success or stamp our Visa of Defeat. When faced with a financial hardship or tedious emotional decision, what is your mind telling you to do?

Enable your cookies and macros today...turn the switch of defeat OFF and say goodbye to failure. It is not the foundation of what successful people are made of, so don't accept it.

Instead say goodbye and instead knock on the door of success.

Tips to Recycle--YOUR resume

The complexity of gaining employment sometimes bewilder potential candidates. There are tips to "Building a Better you." These proven methods are explored within the pages of The Pink Slip- HR Secrets for the Displaced Worker...but today, the Human Resources Corner will share a few with you.

* Update your resume at least every 6 months. This economy does not lend to "guaranteed employment' so every 6 months is advised.

* When sending a resume/cover letter or networking correspondence--be specific , many are read daily, get to the point.

* The subject line was created for a reason- use it accordingly. Again, be specific.

* Unless sending a grant proposal, limit the amount of attachments sent. Many PC's now have so many virus software, that attachments may be detected as potential danger and deleted...state the information in the body (for more clarity google business writing do's and don't /email etiquette).

* Finally always include clear, contact information (email/cell) for follow up. time is short, searching for follow up information may cause you the position.

Your Opportunity MAY be a Click Away

The economy and Dow Jones have both used our funds carelessly. Monies once thought secured for college and other expenditures have fizzled away with the dawn of each day.

However there is a rainbow at the end of the recession chain....its called opportunity. When it appears you must be prepared to open the doors with a much anticipated breath.

Are you ready? Can you forsee where it will strike in your own life? If the answers were NO--then its time to ReInvent yourself. Arm yourself with the knowledge necessary to adapt and overcome your current finances.

A free HR Consultation will be conducted (focusing on the ReInvention process) at Soule Restaurant located on Fulton Street in Brooklyn, on August 30 at 7pm.
Don't miss this exciting opportunity.

Envious of YOUR boss

Equip yourself with the the means to be the CEO of your own company. The primary reason that most CEO's succeed is simply: they keep trying. From errors they learn what to do to succeed. They do not focus on what was done incorrectly as much as the lessons learned. Life...is a learning tool...all should use.

The key is to try. Nothing can be gained if trial is not attempted.
Secondly, when pursuing your dream (whatever it is) make sure it is YOUR dream and not one that parents, siblings, spouses....have for you. It must make you happy in the pursuit for the monies, status, fame will come AFTER the work and seeds have been planted.

Partner with like minded persons. Engage in memberships with local community leaders and workshops, they will be your lifeline to daily occurrences in the various neighborhoods.

Finally, have faith in your self and your abilities...faith is free but very powerful. Being envious is wasteful....developing your Plan B-- priceless.

I was fired- why am I still suffering?

Many employees feel that in hindsight of a termination, the onslaught of a denial of unemployment combined with the lack of empathy from banks, mortgage companies, and bill collectors are in fact a double helping of The Pink Slip.

Some feel that in many ways , when there is no documented reason for justification of said termination, they still reap the pain. Fighting to obtain on employment benefits or Short term disability benefits are a daily task. Cobra is as such that even with full unemployment the chances of affording it are few.

Daily occurrences make being at home intolerable; when an opportunity finally is presented for employment, the much dreaded response of saying "yes, i was laid off", ads what most have described as insult to injury.

Why is it that when downsized the pain is continuous? Why can't, especially in this "educated environment," persons actually empathize with individuals in this predicament and assist more and dismiss less?

I trust that you, followers of the HR Corner, will take heed and lend an ear---soon it may be you. Which reaction would you prefer?

Termination may be in the works for you---Can you afford NOT to have this book?
The Pink Slip- HR Secrets for the Displaced Worker.

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Why were they fired?

Was it because of there tenured nature?
Was it there faithfulness and good ethics?
What did the 25 years of loyalty amount to?
Did their resume have an "invented skill(s)"?
Were they lacking in product knowledge, aptitude of learning or willingness to train or be trained?

No to all of the above---they were terminated becasue the company needed to "tighten it's belt."

If one of the above has happened to you- get a Plan B. A plan B guarantees you an Option when there seems no other way. Plan B is YOUR life alert prior, during and after termination.

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Can You Fight them?

Have they denied your unemployment? Is your state employment-at-will AND you feel the termination/downsizing a big mistake or violation of your rights? Fight them on paper?

The time has come for some education on YOUR EMPLOYMENT rights. Its easy for an at-will state to terminate an employee without cause, as it is an employee to leave without cause or reproach in said state. However, if after years of employment this has suddenly occured, or the management has changed as did the "love/esteem" for you and requests made not in your current, past or potential job description the underlying reason may be grounds for legal action.

Some tricks of the trade are: document sudden changes in the environment, management or culture; always have an updated resume/cover letter handy; be cognizant of what is occurring in your selected industry. Merges and acquisition occur daily, be aware of them. In some cases persons only begin to engage in the "goings on" after its too late-- but the signs were around them daily.

Lastly, this HR corner would strongly advise all to develop a plan B---work on it, and nurture it.

When your rights are violated--you can fight to have them restored, acknowledged and in some cases retribution.

Some of my favorites sites are below...please be mindful that each situation varies with person and circumstance so research your case, find the answers...then PUT IT IN WRITING. It may be difficult but you must stand up for your own rights.

Eat 1000 in an HOUR--

Eating 1000 or more in an hour is easy. They are the most powerful and destructive items known. With all the nuclear powers, toxins and chemicals, they can be the most feared.

Many have attempted to master the use. Many have failed. The hidden secret is to use them sparingly--as one would spring water in the desert. Others will use without fail, without delay with crass and demeaning intent. They will emit at times more than 1000 an hour. What are they? Where are they from? How can you be sure of its use?

They are words-they are deadly and they destroy all that will know, love and interact with you. Choose yours carefully for once said, once used, there powers will supersede your existence- and they may be the last memory you make.

Attempt today to eat 1000 every hour rather than using them carelessly.

The Right To BEAR Arms

Yes- you have the right to bear arms. The arms of Self Empowerment and Strength and Survival. Our Constitutional right empowers all Americans with (among others), the right NEVER to GIVE up or GIVE IN.

The only catch is you must use this power.
"Power is broadly defined as "the capacity to bring about change." It takes many forms, comes from many places, and is measured in many ways. http://www.beyondintractability.org/user_guides/third_side/equalizers_what-is-power.jsp"

Like many things in life if it not used then you will not see the fruit of its labor. this authors simple tip today is BEAR your arms. Use your influence to get ahead. Don't let the recession take control of you and your situations. You were empowered with the necessary ammunition to bring about change. Get up, stop complaining, and DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE to see the effect you want.

Entrepreneur's In Charge

Who is in charge of today's economy? What steps have you taken to ensure some financial gain, or parallel for YOUR future?

The past trends have birthed awesome leaders in various fields. From the time of the Great depression, to WWI and WWII, we have seen the most conceptual ideas come to fruition.
Some recent examples are:

"........ nobody knew the market for Internet related businesses such as Amazon, Google, YouTube, Yahoo etc. Only after the Internet emerged did people begin to see opportunities and market in that technology. However, even if a market already exists, such as the market for cola drinks (which has been created by Coca Cola), there is no guarantee that a market exists for a particular new player in the cola category. Taken FROM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrepreneurship#History_of_entrepreneurship."

The act of entrepreneurship is an awesome one to venture. This author would caution two key points:
a. make it in something that you already have an interest
b. keep positive persons in your constant corner....preferable a "touch-tone" away

This recession is upon us. You have the option to make it THROUGH or make it LAST. In a few years you may look back at this decision and commend yourself or, live in regret. The time is now. Which choice will you make? Whatever your choice...do it 100%.

The H.R. Corner: Employment Nightmares

The H.R. Corner: Employment Nightmareshttp://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/hotstories/6478434.html

Employment Nightmares

The authors of this publication, the Human Resources Corner thought it best to share some more "insider information" with you on various, avoidable, experiences while employed.

Granted, we are cognizant of the fact that employment is a rarity at this time, but when accepting the position, accept with the notion that the position may be available for a totally different reason than the obvious. At times the reasons can be negative. Below are examples of candidates that fell into uncomfortable situations.

Candidate A- Employed in the capacity of Customer Service for greater portion of 10 years; recently unemployed answers an ad for Customer Service Manager. The salary and benefits were mutually beneficial, and the initial interview was a success. Employment was granted and accepted. The first day of work the candidate is taken with a group to the "work site." The candidate is then given a briefing and issued a small suitcase with books and a metro card, detailing a non-discussed hours of operation 7:30am-6pm. Next they were informed the "customer service aspect" would be in the capacity of sales from one door to the next.
This candidate could've avoided such mishaps had they prepared and inquired prior i.e.: where would my office be? What would my responsibilities entail? Who would do the training? What were the hours of operation? especially for customer service...are there any sales involved? Many companies use the verbiage of customer service when attempting to entice to sales.

Candidate B- Previously employed in the capacity of a cashier, answered an ad for receptionist. Interview was awesome, resulting in an mutually acceptable salary and start date. Upon arriving the morning she noticed many persons coming in and out that were "questionable." The car services and catered affairs she managed always entailed large sums of cash, and late into the evenings at specific hotels. This continued for many weeks, but never a word was uttered. The agreed upon salary similarly done with cash; when questioned for the reason the manager returned with a poor excuse. The morning the officers made the arrest the candidate was also taken with the owner and managers. This candidate should have trusted a gut instinct---that screamed "run."
Even in this recession employment is available....accept the option with both eyes open. Be aware of employment nightmares.

Protection can be examined in several ways. Specifically as pertained to this HR corner---we will discuss blog protection. Your verbiage must be protected from the various hackers seeking to expunge the points of focus as most appropriate to them, and misuse it to their benefit.

The authors of the HR corner has read many amazing books, blogs and exerts from followers, fellow users and friends. It is primarily to them that this alert is geared.

To this point we would like to commend the members of R.I.D.M. for always constant enlightening on the various avenues via the internet. Received a W.A.R.N Notice

So you have received a WARN notice...synonymous to receiving The Pink Slip. You probably have lots of questions and concerns. Briefly I will inform you of the following:

* Generally, WARN covers employers with 100 or more employees, not counting those who have worked less than six months in the last 12 months and those who work an average of less than 20 hours a week.
* Employees entitled to advance notice under WARN include managers and supervisors as well as hourly and salaried workers.
* Regular federal, state, and local government entities that provide public services are not covered by WARN.
http://www.dol.gov/compliance/laws/comp-warn.htm

The Department of Labor's (DOL) Employment and Training Administration (ETA) administers WARN at the federal level, and some states have plant closure laws of their own. A State Dislocated Worker Unit Coordinator can provide more information on notice requirements in a specific area. http://www.dol.gov/compliance/laws/comp-warn.htm

It DOES apply to all in the plant/location/warehouse....manager, supervisors and all applicable employees unless previously discussed with your employer. Some person with dual or multiple location responsibility may be exempt from this notice, in certain states.

If you have received this notice and feel you are out of options, check out the Department of Labor site (url above) and other local state and federal offices. Know your rights, and your OPTIONS...

Is Change Good?

The premise of now President Obama's campaign was on the notion that Change will come to America. Whether your vote was one of republican, democrat, or without an affiliate of party, the seed of hope in a statement about Change evoked a new spirit in America and all over the world.

The same concept can and should be applied to personal, employment change. One that facets hope and embraces new ideas and encouragement. The ever changing world around us will not stop for our reaction. It is the belief of this author that persons when thrown into the whirlwind of Change should embrace it. The ramifications of battle with change yields wounds of regret and loss on the side of the resistor.

Is change good? Not in all cases...but regardless it occurs, so embrace.

File Chapter 11

The monies earned have not outweighed the expenses. Your small business has had more turnover than the subway at Ellis Island. The end result is-- File Chapter 11.

This may seem a big flaw in your plan of success. The business plan you submitted may have absorbed some of the bumps but the hills were too much. Still, had you not undertook this venture, you would not have learned all the entrenuprenure's heartache for yourself. Sure you could've read a book on said subject matter-- but the best lessons one can learn are the ones learned through experience.

So, like the dusty checkbook- pick yourself up, dust off and try again. It is the belief of this author that true life must be lived from the front. Expertise will only come to those who go through the experience- not the naysayers or persons sitting on the bench of life.

File that Chapter 11- and TRY AGAIN. This time with the band aids of past falls. This time- with experience.

My Empty Purse

The reality of the US dollar is very frightening. If your past portfolio consisted of stocks and savings it can terrify even the most secure optimist.

However, there is another side of this coin. There can be a Plan B. In this time, develop talents that were subdued because of time constraints. Network more with business partners and co workers, become involved in giving back to those in need.

These things though seemingly insignificant in the beginning can grow immensely and offer the balance and much needed distraction during this time.

This author has discovered that a hobby CAN eventually outweigh a job. Maybe you will discover the same thing. You have nothing to lose.

Listen to Their Crying

They may be unseen by most...but they should not be unheard. I was reading a news segment on the Children during a recession. To follow please click on : http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/earlyshow/main500202.shtml.

This piece really pulled at my heart strings. In a world where the richest, loudest voices are the major ones that are heard its' sometimes hard to listen to the still, small voices. The unemployment pools do not reflect their pain. The recession statistics do not gather their data.

But we must listen, look and apply what they are trying so desperately to say. I think this writer goatherd most on their hurt, despair and the need for change. I hope that this audience similarly, if nothing else results in the above- listens to the small voices around them.

They should not be unheard.

Though in no particular order this HR corner pauses, for a brief moment in the world to take its hat off to you. Smiling brightly as we soak in the success and positive leadership that you have embodied.

During this recession you all have given back to your communities, environment and consumers with your heart and soul. Many of you above have held closely the grace and kindness of queens in your own right.

Past years has seen you fight your way to to the top. Many could chastise the very facts of your existence, echoing the cries of many jealous men of whom you have had to work four times as hard as they also held the critics in the palm of their hands.

Gut Reaction

Things in everyday News will give you a GUT Reaction. What is your initial action when hearing/reading news? Do you panic? Do you breathe a sigh of relief? Does one type of news cause you to rest easier while another causes distress?
Below are some simple news blogs. Take a few minutes and read at least two or three. Write down your initial reaction (prior to reading). After completing the entire read summarize your thoughts. Was your initial reaction in line with the facts? Were you judgmental? Did you impatiently scan the piece and discarded the remainder with disgust?
Whatever your reaction and responses understand that this is a exert from your life. How do you handle stress in your daily life? Are you quick to judge and dismiss without the entire picture? Do you write things down (mental checklist is ok), plan them out, re-think them, then react accordingly. Do you gather the facts, then plan the best approach? What is your GUT REACTION when life throws you a curve ball. Improve on it---you may start today.

Your BailOut Package

Whether you are employed through the realms of a financial institution, mortgage company, real estate proper, stock and other mutual interests, retail or wholesale, the recession and resulting downsizing has hit very close to your area.

What's your Plan B? How have you adapted to the recent crunch on family activities, excursions cut short, and tightening of the old wallet/purse strings? The obvious has been to play it safe and stay where you can. Learn to eat out only when necessary, partake in the world of, dare i say it, "coupon cutting."

There is a wonderful world of survivors out there that have succumbed to this adaptation. YOU too can be counted among them if you learn these simple techniques. In the personal world, the first goal is to ensure that your significant other is on board with your plans. If the plan is to eat out less, skip a few Broadway plays for some off Broadway performances, they are just as awesome but cost much less. This blog was very instrumental to me. http://wdef.com/news/best_saving_tips/05/2009

Diversify Your Funds

It's already May of 2009. The above topic should be one in the foremost thought of most in the world. Retirement funds, college funds and "fun monies," have all but vanished in most accounts. The stable economy has all but vanished.

The new age of reinvention has dawned. It is time to diversify yourself. Engage in other activities that can similarily yield income. In the begining it may be much smaller that your current occupation, however, with some tendering and nurturing, it can be done.

Explore what those options are through, The Pink Slip-HR Secrets for the Downsized/Displaced or veteran Employee. It can be purchased on https://www.createspace.com OR amazon.com

Pink Slip Parties

The new year has warranted crafty ideas for survival. One such idea stemmed from much needed networking that was the root of career fairs but, in recent years has been lost on procedures and "best practices."

The premise of such parties assist person in meeting a more social affair. This said, it also includes socializing the way it was meant to occur...one on one. In this way recruiters do not have the long lines and bureaucratic formalities that weigh them down during the formal career fairs, rather they meet and are entertained by persons.

One book that is an awesome tool for such a party, before and after is, The Pink Slip, Secrets for the Displaced Worker.
This book is an awesome tool and can be purchased on amazon.com or https://www.createspace.com.

Denied Unemployment- Time to Fight

It’s time to fight fight fight. Some persons are more aware of the complex changes in the world economy than in their own rights to unemployment insurance benefits.

Unemployment Insurance was established to ensure that during layoff and downsizing the employee is taken care of. (Please note that one key eligibility criteria is continuous for at least a year.) http://www.ctdol.state.ct.us/progsupt/unemplt/uceligb.htm

Where persons fail is after the words “your claim is denied.” They forget to investigate the reasons. Sometimes claims can be investigated and ultimately yield triumph. The standard benefit period is known as the “base period”…..however, if the un-qualifying event is associated with not enough base periods to use, YOU have the option to use the “alternate base period”. This period can only be used for the current unemployment claim. It may be enough (please refer to the above link on minimum allowable income), to get you your monetary benefits.

You have 30 days to fight a DENIED claim…get on the phone. Contact Department of Labor and learn your Rights.

The HR corner sometimes receives emails on various topics through direct contact at info@MosALConsutling.com or Twitter , Squidoo, Stumble Upon at MosALConsulting.com.

Thank you all for your support.

The Employment Airbag-Keeping Your Job Safe

Our focus for Employment Options MUST entail the ability to safeguard any current position(s), while developing a freelance/entrepreneurial prospect. In 2009 our ability to adapt and conform is a must. There is little room for uncertainty.
Love what you do, but also develop in areas that you like. Your "key" role may be in what you like, then the opposite is a necessity...develop in what you love. It may seem very minute in the beginning and some may scoff and snicker at the mere mention of pursuing the notion of hobby= money. But recall the many things that have birthed from such frivolous. Tangible ideas such as , FedEx, Yahoo, Google, Go Daddy, Ask Jeeves ...and the like all stemmed from the need to create and expand using different modes.
The key to keeping a position safe in these tough economic times is to ensure that in all you do, you can be your own boss. Your financial well being cannot be 100% dependent on another, for daily existence- if it does the chance of living from check to check will be great.

Is Success a Hypothesis?

In all things your mind has to be focused on where you need to be and where you want to be. It is the age old mind over matter, a notion in which the mind is believed more powerful than the body. This “myth” can be easily seen in society today.

You can be your own test subject. Put the hypothesis of success to the test. You have nothing to lose.
Follow these simple steps:
1. Make a list of finite goals.
2. Make a business Plan on how they can be attained.
3. Go after them.

The IRS and You?

April 15th is the Deadline for IRS filing. That is, the Internal Revenue Service….However, the IRS I speak of is the Independent Rescue System. This system is one that is built, operated and audited solely by you, the consumer and owner.

This system is one of Self Control. It stipulates a versed consumer that capitalizes on the intelligence at his/her fingers, that of others, and materials in books, to succeed during a recession. It is that Rescue System that assists a small percentage of the world to brave the storms and demise during financial hardships.

One such book that educates others on weathering and to many lengths, embracing the storms of this recession is entitled, “The Pink Slip.”

This book captures the very essence of survival and is an awe-inspiring listener for the persons returning to the workforce giving more than others have…Options and Examples. This book will be available only on amazon.com.

Aprils 15th is upon us. Go ahead and file your taxes using your own IRS, Independent Rescue Team- you.

Leading by EXAMPLE

Tick tock tick tock….the world is watching you. What messages are you sending? What will others think of your decisions? The company/position and status you have has thrived over the years, and your bank account is a depiction of that fact . The country club status has to be tweaked. The shopping sprees of “just because” has to be omitted.

Looking at our presidents recent monumental movements "Leading by Example" is prominent. Overlooking the many political and financial decisions are a must as this is primarily a Human Resources Corner. However, the social event with the Queen, an unplanned visit to support our troops, and Easter Sunday Church attendance are all in association to Humanity and the relation thereof. President Obama seems to be a faith of interaction with consistency. We have seen this from him irrelevant of his audience throughout his tenure. Personable, intelligent and confident.

Some CEO’s and persons of high authority are also taking major plunges thought parallel only to the surge of “go green” campaigns almost a decade ago. Some leaders are omitting bonuses, pay raises and the bravest of the brave, are omitting salaries. How far will you go to support the economy? How far will you go to support the employees that have sacrificed so much for the “progression” of you business.

Some kool ulr that support the above are :

A Stimulus Package?

Your career has been filled with ache and sacrifice. Every turn has been eventful…with few breaks. You are now a long survivor, or joined by few of the merger/acquisition game that corporate America has played. Many of the fringes were given to senior management or the partners only. Never was there mention of additional benefits, much less a stimulus package.
However you do have a stimulus package that few have tapped into. Since the recession has bloomed persons have been dissecting current employment and the room for growth.
YOUR stimulus package lies in educational and entrepreneurial ventures. Think of the hobbies you enjoyed as a child. Think back to the stamp collection and baseball cards. The reality is that everyone is not an expert in everything. There may be market for that hobby. There may be a part-time position for persons who like to read Shakespeare ….and maybe it may lead you to teaching or another exploratory field never before thought.
While the full time employment must still exist, maybe it’s time for you, for us to claim our STIMULUS package, so when at times our “car of life” goes to E/empty, our banks of opportunity are still in surplus.

OPEN The Door

Open the Doors of exploration in your career. An opportunity may be around the corner. The responsibilities detail in performance reviews may not detail all the things that you're really good at.

It's now April. By now you should have had a review. Take this time to communicate the position but (especially if there are immediate opportunities for growth), share the projects your loved doing. There may not be an financial incentive to add more responsibility to your plate now, but the future is an empty canvas....and hold the brush.

Take this time to open the doors to others aspects of employment, varied ways of learning and more importantly communication of the above. Open The DOOR- you may be surprised on what enters.

Have a great week.

It's All ABout YOU

Employment is at an all time low. The past two years have increased the amount of persons eligible for unemployment benefits. Then why are some persons not claiming this benefit? Why do some use age old stipilations and pride to hinder something that they have not only vested monies into for decades but rightly deserve.

The past has stamped certain ideals that are still used now. The greatest concern is however that our forefathers were not prewarned of this time. There was no way for them to mentally prepare us for -now. Our life lessons, engrained in the blueprint of "expectations" must change. Change will yield our survival.

For those who are unaware of all of their unemployment rights check out your local unemployment division.

Job Shed vs Blood Shed

Today I read :
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. unemployment rate soared to 8.5 percent in March, the highest since 1983, as employers slashed 663,000 jobs and cut workers' hours to the lowest on record, government data showed on Friday. By Lucia Mutikani- Reuters.com"

The numbers are astounding to say the least. In comparison to the number of persons working it is comparable to say that such death to our financial wealth can also hinder our emotional and mental health.

This type of "job shed" can easily lead to poor self esteem, poor choices and fatal loses. Don't let it affect YOU.

Things to do:
Get back on the horse of success.
Know your situation but DON'T DWELL on it. It only changes if YOU change it.
Reach out to others for help.

Thank you- and Good Luck.

After the "I Do"

Most companies have a probation period to cement the relationship of employer and employee. Prior to this the employee is arriving early, doing tedious tasks not presented in a job description, and conforming to the new culture of the company. The employer checks in daily, weekly and with supervisors. They are interested in there investment and make attempts to find out the nature, attitude and whereabouts of this new hire.

After the "I Do", some employees and employers alike begin to lose interest and the courting dance ends.

The employers cease to take care of the needs of the employee. In some estimations it is figured that since the employee is now full time that such practices have ended. The responsibility is strictly on the manager whose interest is as deep as job completion.

The employee senses this end to the courting and works as a reflection. While it is true that some are diligent and keep up the display of skills and willingness to help others, most are not. As the benefits begin, the dance ends. The true package is delivered and with it the behavior of a veteran employee. Tardiness, nine to five mentality and all other negative attributes surface.

After you say "I DO", as an employee or employer, remember the courting phase. Remember that both parties benefit from showing interest in the chosen field and both must work together for a better workplace.

Bull or Blog?

It's 2009- April and we are still in doubt about many things. ONE thing that we should not need defining is our self worth. We should know whether we are Bull or Blog.

With bull we are constantly re-inventing ourselves. Unaware of our future and our past we take feed to the many causes that surround us. We need/yearn to be defined by our neighbors, friends, and employment- or the government at large.

Similarly there is a small percentage of us that prefer to do the defining. We PREFER to be the Blog. We pave the way for others that may be interested to follow. Our footprints are the likes of the solution, not the problem. The alpha AND omega. We understand the "Secret" and embrace it with every turn.

The HR corner is committed to both the Bull and the Blog- but this author fancies the Blog as its parallel.

Trimming the Fat

Trimming the fat is a metaphor used by the author to represent what Americans need to do in order to survive this moment in time. We need to "trim the fat" of our lives. Our survival is based on relinquishing hold on the unnecessary fringes we previously sought, and replacing it with the bare necessities.

This type of survival will promote that all share this mantra and ultimately be contagious enough that manufactures, retail, wholesale .....all follow suit. This will mandate our thought process and ultimately our pockets.

In this mentality we entice our cities, our states and collectively our government to follow suit. It is a great wish of this author to see the "changes" not only as a spoken word but also as a direct plan of action.

It is our only key to survival. Groceries, shopping, remodeling/home improvements, vacations....where can you trim the fat?

Life's Lessons

It can be argued that the most important lessons you learn are taught during the formative years. Most persons would be in agreement with that. Yet, who says that an old cat cannot be taught new tricks. The responsibility is upon the self to either accept the responsibility of our actions and adjust them accordingly for the progress of self and others, or play dead and do nothing.

Scenario: A convicted felon is imprisoned then released after a certain amount of time. The belief is that they would see the error of their ways and learn to value the now appointed freedom with such immense gratitude that errors will no longer be a subject in which they would have any interest. The double edged sword of reality is that in most cases this is not so. The worst of cases show that the persons of whom the worst crimes were committed repeat the same behaviors and return to prisons within short periods of time.

Another example would be the employee that after 15 years lose their job. As an executive most of the "fringe benefits" earned were unilaterally bestowed upon all other executives. Never had the requirement been for a separate plan for one. Now the emphasis will be survival of oneself after co-depending on others. Reaching back into a degree sought and acclaimed after much coaching from parents the love of writing surfaces. Blogs and books, articles and poetry all surface as points of interest. After some submissions a best seller is born.

Some of life's lessons were meant to make us stronger. Some were meant to change us forever. In life YOU have the freedom to choose which path you take. Life is full of lessons, but you have to decide to learn from it, rather than have it overtake you.

What lessons are life teaching you today? What will you do with it?

Bitter Sweet Endings

Do you recall how encouraged you felt when you received the offer of employment? Maybe the offer was not formal one, representing the likes of an offer letter. Maybe it did not include the likes of a bonus plan or sign on bonus, it may not have lined your pockets with gold or silver. What it did was provide you with a means to an end. Hopefully it did so in an industry and function of which, somewhere deep within you, you truly love doing.

Now, after so many decades, years, months, its all coming to an end. The feelings you now hold are bitter-sweet. The boss you held contempt for, or on an opposite spectrum, love/like and respect for will no longer be your concern.

Even in this recession, you have choices. You may not be aware of them all, but they do exist.

Self Management

Prior to 2009 many in executive positions and below have had a liberal view of spending. Persons have justified many blatant needs while fulfilling their wants. It is a very old challenge that all must now repair.

In homes across America caretakers are managing their monies to ensure that though the salaries are stagnant, at best, financial responsibilities are still performed. It is now interesting that even with the much needed decrease of oil prices groceries and other such amendities are still on the rise.

How can self management be adhered to when as a nation it is a challenge? Much like a computer, we have to reprogram our wants verses our needs. Every aspect of our spending much be examined and re-examined and "we" all must make decisions that, as we have seen will literally affect our future and the future of our children.

Take the Plunge

Start up Businesses on the rise. It is from the deprivation of our current events that successful businesses will commence. The ashes of yesteryear will not destroy the fire that is America. The only stumbling block is our personal ambition, drive and combined thirst.

How far will you go for future success? Are you willing to take the plunge?

Self Assessment

The Hiring Market is almost a vast wasteland. Something must be done to assist persons looking to reenter the workforce. How can a credible employee be distinguished from a "job hopper"? This Human Resources corner is definitely for you.

If you are the "Job hopper" but have finally settled down to the realization that, we all need focus, drive and determination in an attempt to undo some of the past eight years of demise. This blog is also for you.

Log on every week for exciting new Human Resources Tips- from my experience to you.

Back in the Drivers' Seat.

The most prestigious of colleges could not have prepared persons for the current state of the economy. It has crippled both the employer and the employee. Yet if we are to survive, as a country the "Change" must be internal and external. The Reinvention Process must be a step that all are willing to take.
